Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Question:
Is narrowing the main focus of Asian rhinoplasty?

Answer:
Narrowing the nose is a common concern for Asian patients. Often, the upper portion of their nose is flat and wide, and the tip is also often wide.

Treatment of the wide upper portion often involves osteotomies (cutting the nasal bone with a “micro-osteotome” and shifting them closer to the middle – narrowing the nose. Also, adding height also makes the nose appear less wide. This is achieved with an implant (also known as a graft) on the nasal bridge. I prefer to use the patient’s own cartilage and have been successful with this approach.
