New Jersey Rhinoplasty

If you are in the Princeton, New Jersey area and interested in a rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty, please contact Dr. Daniel Becker at the Rhinoplasty Center for a consultation.  Continue reading below for further information on both procedures.

Rhinoplasty, a plastic surgery procedure designed to create better facial harmony, alters the shape and/or size of the nose.  There are many changes that can be accomplished with a rhinoplasty including reduction or increase in the overall size, removal of a hump, change in the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrowing of the span of the nostrils, and change in the angle between the nose and upper lip.  Rhinoplasty may also treat some breathing difficulties.

Typically, rhinoplasty takes one to two hours or more to complete.  This procedure may be performed with either local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia.  In some cases the incisions are made only on the inside of the nose, and this is known as a closed rhinoplasty.  In other cases, however, an additional small incision is made on the underside of the nose between the nostrils, which is known as an open rhinoplasty.  Recovery time usually takes about a week,  although strenuous activities will need to be avoided for two to three additional weeks.

In cases where there are cosmetic or functional problems that have resulted from rhinoplasty surgery, a revision rhinoplasty may be performed.  The Revision rhinoplasty involves the same options regarding anesthesia and incision location as the primary rhinoplasty; however, this surgery tends to take longer as it is a more complex procedure.  Recovery is similar after revision rhinoplasty, although the pain tends to be minimized.
